July 22nd, 2017 Burlington, WA

Today at a Skagit County Republican Party held event Elizabeth Scott of Monroe spoke to a cheering crowd and officially announced that she will be pursuing the soon to be open 39th Legislative District State House Representative Seat.  The future position was made available to viable candidates just a few days ago when Rep John Koster of Arlington announced he will be resigning at the end of August.  Koster, who also spoke at the event said it was a very difficult decision, but he and his wife prayed on it and he knows it is the right thing to do.  Koster is taking a job in Olympia to be the next Executive Director of the WA State County Roads Administration.

Elizabeth Scott twice was elected as the 39th Legislative District Republican member of the Washington House of Representatives, she held office from 2013-2016.  Impressively in November of 2014 Scott won the vote by 24 points (63% to 37%).  Last year Scott was running for Congress in Washington States 1st Congressional District when a health issue unexpectedly forced her to drop out.  Today she reported her health condition is completely under control, feels great and once again is ready for office.  She describes herself as a Republican Conservative who strongly believes in individual liberty.

Per the Washington State Constitution and Washington State Republican Party rules the Republican 39th Legislative District Precinct Committee Officers will vote and rank the top three candidates to be considered for the position.  Since the 39th Legislative District encompasses portions of three counties, Skagit, Snohomish and King; in the coming months the Skagit County Commissioners and the Snohomish and King County Councils will choose the winner from the top three Precinct Committee Officer nominees.  The new 39th LD Representative will finish out Kosters 2018 term.  At this point Elizabeth Scott seems to be the clear front runner.
