On January 3rd the Skagit County Board of Commissioners, the Snohomish County Council and the King County Council all met in Everett to choose the new state 39th Legislative District Senator.

At the start of the meeting the governing members agreed to suspend the rules and propose a joint-motion to appoint the LD 39 Precinct Committee Officers first choice and Sedro-Woolley Mayor Keith Wagoner.  The motion was made by Skagit County Commissioner Ron Wessen and seconded by Skagit County Commissioner Lisa Janicki.

The motion brought to the floor passed with no opposition, then each of the 14 (11 present and 3 via conference call) governing officials preceded to all vote for Keith Wagoner as the new state LD 39 Senator.

Because the 39th Legislative District is in three counties, the members of the Board of Skagit County Commissioners, the Snohomish County Council and the King County Council each had a say in the selection of Kirk Pearson's replacement.

Skagit County Republican Party Chairman Bill Bruch said: " We are all very happy for Keith.  The unanimous vote was a true testament to Mr. Wagoner and his impressive resume , Keith was a naval commanding officer for 23 years and has also proven to be a very capable and effective elected official at the local levels.  He will do a good job in Olympia and be an excellent state senator and legislator.
