March 22, 2021 Family Policy Institute WA State Legislative Update
FPIW submitted oral or written testimony on the following bills: SB 5052, SB 5229, SB 5313, HB 1009, HB 1141, HB 1225, and HB 1426;
Our next cutoff date is approaching. Friday, March 26th, 2021 is the final day for bills without a fiscal note to be voted out of their respective committees. Now is the time to contact committee members and your Senator and House Representatives to let them know how to vote.
Currently, we are focusing on 16 bills that touch on our subject areas of Life, Religious Freedom, Marriage & Family, Parental Rights, and Christian Social Justice.

URGENT: Please call and email the members of the Senate Health and Long Term Care Committee and tell them to vote NO on HB 1141. In the wake of the dramatic rise in suicides and overdose deaths in WA, passing HB 1141 sends the wrong message to the most vulnerable among us.
The focus for this week is final committee hearings. Please sign in to state your position on these bills. FPIW needs your help:

Bill 1152 Creating public health districts - removes LOCAL control

HB 1009 – This bill adds abortion coverage to student health plans. We do not need to subject more people or force people to be a party to the violence and devastation of abortion. Passed the House with a vote of 57 yeas, 40 nays, and 1 excused. Currently awaiting a vote by the full Senate. Call and email your Senator and tell them to Vote NO.
HB 1141 – Increasing access to the Death with Dignity act & increasing state-sanctioned suicide. This bill decreases the waiting period for patients from 15 days to 72 hours. It also allows for lesser qualified medical staff to authorize and prescribe the lethal dose and to make the determination of mental competence. Passed the House with a vote of 60 yeas, 37 nays, and 1 excused. A vote in the Senate Health & Long Term Care Committee is scheduled for 3/22 – 3/26. Call and email the Senate Committee and your State Representatives!
