LD 40 Democrat State Senator Kevin Ranker Resigns

Jan 12th, 2019 -- Effective immediately Legislative District 40 Democrat Senator Kevin Ranker has notified the governor that he is resigning.  Ranker was the 40th LD Senator since 2009; the district includes mostly all of Bellingham in Whatcom County, all of San Juan County and the northern half of Skagit County.

This is coming of no surprise to many as Ranker has been under intense scrutiny for years with sexual misconduct allegations.  Also most recently discovered court records filed in San Juan County appear to show Ranker may have conspired (with his mother) to commit tax fraud in 2015 when he falsified documents provided to the WA State Dept of Revenue.

Per the Washington State Constitution, Article II, Section 15; a replacement for the Senator (for this session) will be made from a list of three nominees selected by the Democrat State Central Committee, by appointment by the joint action of the the local governing boards via the Skagit, Whatcom and San Juan County legislative authorities.

A new Senate election will occur in the next General Election in November of 2019.
