At it's regular monthly meeting on Thursday the Skagit County Republican Party Central Committee unanimously voted on a Resolution to oppose a new Skagit Charter form of government.  The Charter movement is being lead by a mostly Democrat contingent group of people known as "Home Rule Skagit".

Additionally, "Home Rule Skagit" is proposing to have twenty one (seven per commissioner district) "freeholders" write a new county constitution.

SCRP Chairman Bill Bruch said "The SCRP will be doing everything in its power over the next several weeks to defeat the November ballot measure."  "We are NO - on Charter and are currently working on a campaign to educate the people about why a Charter form of government would not be good for Skagit County."

"We want to retain the current Commissioner form of government in Skagit and not bring additional needless bureaucracy and the many other problems that King, Snohomish, Whatcom and other Charter governments are facing here to Skagit; one of our Motto's is "Don't King Skagit " Bruch said.
