Legislative District 10 Republican State Senator Barbara Bailey recently announced her decision to step down from the Senate effective September 30th, 2019. Since 2003 Barbara has been one of the finest and classiest legislators in Olympia and truly will be mist! Barbara's service included 10 years (5 terms) in the State House of Representatives and 7 years in the State Senate.
In her resignation letter she said, "After much prayer and discussion with my family, I have made the decision to step down from my Senate seat effective September 30th, 2019. This decision was not taken lightly; however, I believe now is the best time to make this move, not only for me personally, but for the respective parties as you work through the appointment process. I have been giving this decision a lot of thought for the past 3-4 months. Spending quality time with my family and church has been difficult at best, and unworkable at other times. There are significant projects and ventures in which my husband and I want to be involved while we are still reasonably healthy and mobile."
"My service to the citizens of District 10 has been tremendously rewarding. In my various leadership roles, I am proud to have been a part in the development of strong bipartisan solutions for a diverse range of policy issues ranging from aging and healthcare to higher education access and affordability, as well as public pensions and veterans’ issues."
"While chair of the Senate Higher Education Committee, I sponsored legislation to expand access to state financial aid. In addition, I was very proud to spearhead an historic effort that froze tuition at Washington’s public colleges and universities, then delivered a first-in-the-nation tuition cut that was a model for 25 subsequent states to follow."
"My passion has always been for our aging population and our veterans. The various committees on which I served were able to forge several notable pieces of legislation that brought increased benefits to patient care, affordability and safety. Our veterans have received increased support at both the county and state level in addition to saving thousands of dollars on tuition costs."
"One of my most significant accomplishments was in the area of public pensions. As chair of the Select Committee for Pension Policy, we were able to create a program which ensured long-term sustainability at a time when other pension systems around the country were in crisis. Our system now ranks among the most stable in the nation."
"It was the highest honor I could ever have to be your elected Senator. I hope I earned your trust. Thank you all for your support and encouragement through the year."
With Deep Respect, Barbara Bailey.
The next step to replace our sitting State Senator is per Article 2, Section 15 of the Washington State Constitution and the Washington State Republican Party By-laws: Three chosen candidate names shall be submitted to the WSRP State Committee by counties in the legislative district where the vacancy occurs; in this case Island, Skagit and Snohomish Counties.
This means Republican Legislative District 10 PCO's in the three counties will pick and rank the 3 nominees. After the 3 candidates are ratified by the Washington State Republican Party, the Island County Commissioners, the Skagit County Commissioners and the Snohomish County Council will all meet and fill the vacancy with one of the 3 GOP candidates with a final vote to appoint Barbara's successor. The new State Senator will then fulfill the final year of Barbara's term in 2020. A similar procedure happened two years ago when Keith Wagoner was appointed to replace Senator Kirk Pearson, who took a job with the Trump administration.
The official Tri-County PCO vote will be held at the Mount Vernon Christian School on Thursday, October 3rd at 7 pm. Former Oak Harbor School Board Director and current Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce Director Christine Cribb has announced she is seeking the appointment. Also several other Republican candidates are seriously considering the position. Any Candidates interested in the vacancy need to submit their 'Letters of Candidacy' no later than September 30th, 2019 to SCRP Chairman Bill Bruch at 2021 E. College Way, Suite 200 Mount Vernon, WA 98273 or email: chair@skagitgop.org.
Legislative District 10 includes all of Island County (Whidbey Island, Oak Harbor and Camano island), a large area of Skagit County (including the southern half of Mount Vernon) and the N.W. portion of Snohomish County (including the city of Stanwood).
After the 2019 session where the WA State Socialist/Democrats gave individuals, families and businesses 27 billion dollars of new taxes over the next 10 years, the new Speaker of the House, Dem Rep Laurie Jinkins, is doubling down saying "Tax Reform" with more taxes including a potential income tax in 2020 is on her agenda. According to Laurie, the "Rich" are still not paying enough tax, and the "Poor" are paying too much. This ideology is right out of Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals handbook, it is pure socialism and redistribution of wealth.
The Democrats clearly want to create a Socialist State and their ideology and actions (votes) are for Total Government Control. As Dems increase taxes the result is more poverty, making it easier to control the masses, forcing more and more people to be reliant on the government. With more on welfare and food stamps the Dems can take control of every aspect of peoples lives; VOTES, food, housing, income, healthcare, etc.
Additionally, expect several controversial state Democrat proposed laws to be back on the docket in 2020. E.g. something similar to SB 5395 mandating all WA public schools teach "Comprehensive Sexual Health Education" beginning in kindergarten. I.e. curriculum may include very young children being indoctrinated into the Democrat homosexual, transgender ideology, etc....
Even though SB 5395 failed last session because of massive protests, Democrat supporters kept the topic alive with a 16 member "workgroup" defined and paid for in the new state budget. The workgroup convened by the state superintendent of public instruction, will be meeting on September 12th and again on September 30th in Olympia. Public comments are being taken through a survey that will remain open through September 22. The group's findings are to be back to the Legislature by December 1st. Click here to complete the survey and click here to learn more about the workgroup.
To help combat this radical indoctrination we should allow more "School Choice" (Charter Schools, Home Schools, Private Schools) so parents can dictate what they want their children to be taught, not liberal school administrators and the Democrat teacher unions. There is a reason why many kids are getting a better education at the private level than the public level. Of note: All the Democrat Presidential candidates are against School Choice, another good reason to VOTE REPUBLICAN!
Now that Governor Jay Inslee has dropped out of the Presidential race his campaign needs to repay the estimated 2 million dollars of taxpayers money that was used to subsidize his added security costs as he campaigned around the country seeking another job. Jay, the citizens of Washington state should not be forced to burden these costs; please take a lesson from former GOP Governor Scott Walker and do the honorable thing. In 2016 when Walker ran for President his campaign paid the security costs and reimbursed the state of Wisconsin the total amount of state political related travel security expenses.
When asked by the Conservative Student Group Turning Point USA if he supported "Antifa" Jay Inslee did not know who the radical domestic terrorist group was despite its many recent appearances in Pacific N.W. headlines. Inslee's answer was, "Tell me about Antifa, tell me who Antifa is so I can tell you if that person should be condemned or not." With Inslee out of the President race we hope the governor finds time to get caught up on local news.
The Democrat California State Legislature is considering that CA K-12 schools (and even CA Colleges) teach a even more radical Socialist Democrat indoctrination 'Ethnic Studies Curriculum' teaching that "Capitalism is equal to White Supremacy, Racism & Patriarchal Oppression." Democrat activist groups and Dem Legislators writing these horrible bills need to be told NO. This extreme Social Justice Activist perspective with a "Capitalism is Racist" agenda in designed to advances a dangerous Socialist indoctrination form of power & oppression over innocent students. All of this is liberal brainwashing and is wrong!
Where in the world has Socialism ever worked? Democrats need to understand Capitalism creates prosperity, freedom and liberty and has pulled more people out of poverty than any other system of government, in fact it is Capitalism that pays for the public schools.
Republicans know that Capitalism is a good thing, it allows the free markets and businesses to thrive. Capitalism encourages the providing of services for others; i.e. with hard work, creativity, and entrepreneurship people can improve their lives by satisfying the needs of others. With Capitalism the consumer has the ultimate power and free markets decides the products we need.
The Liberal Issaquah High School authorities have decided to do a way with high school achievement graduation recognition such as GPA, clubs and sports adornments, etc. because "special recognition may make other kids feel added stress and pressure." This policy helps to dumb down our youth by taking away the pursuit of excellence. Those who have worked so hard to earn their grades deserve better.
The University of Florida (UF) has agreed to change a campus policy and pay $66,000 to the school's Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) chapter on campus as part of a settlement with the Conservative student organization.
YAF sued the school in the U.S. District Court saying the school violated students' 1st and 14th Amendment rights. The old UF policy unfairly taxed conservative students and required students to pay an annual activity fee, yet failed to give student groups equal access to the funds. Some campus groups automatically received annual money from this fund and could use it to bring speakers to campus, whereas Conservative groups like YAF had to petition the school prior for funds prior to specific events. UF was also giving student government preferential discretion to approve and deny funding.
A big congratulations fo YAF, however we can expect more lawsuits, this is just additional proof that the college left is all about suppressing Conservative free speech. Liberal faculty and professors are doing what ever is possible so their narrative is the only voice and only point of view on campus. The truth is that Dems want to control 100% of the political conversation and are threatened by the existence of a Conservative Pro-free market world view.
On August 3rd, at the 2019 national convention of the Democrat Socialists of America (DSA) - the largest and fastest growing socialist organization in the U.S., approved a resolution establishing a national working group dedicated to the Boycott, Divest and Sanctions (BDS) movement. The goal of the anti-Sematic and anti-Israel BDS movement is to embrace the destruction of the State of Israel by cutting off ALL economic activity with Israel with non-stop political and economic pressure, boycotting products & services made in Israel, etc.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), an organization dedicated to tracking and combating anti-Semitism, noted that BDS is a world-wide anti-Semitic movement which has gained traction on college campuses, saying there were 520 anti-Israel events on U.S, college campuses last year, and over half of them focused on BDS themes. BDS is supported by radical groups like the Pro Terrorist anti-Semitic group MIFTAH, which has supported suicide bombings of Israel citizens, praised terrorist attacks, and has described the actions of terrorists as "sacrificing their lives for the cause."
MIFTAH was founded by PLO members and is a well known terrorist front group. MIFTAH also is the organization that sponsored the trip to Israel for Democrat Congressional Reps Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, both Omar and Tlaib are ardent supporters of BDS, that trip was initially blocked by Israel because of MIFTAH's long record of anti-Israel rhetoric wanting to wipe Israel off of the face of the earth and the Democrats alignment with BDS.
Of note: 17 Democrat members of Congress, including Omar and Tlaib, voted against a resolution condemning the BDS movement in July. Soon after Omar introduced a Pro BDS movement resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives, Tlaib and Dem Rep John Lewis co-sponsored it, ridiculously comparing Israel's treatment of Palestinians with the Nazi's treatment of Jews in the 1940's.
Last month's Dayton Ohio shooter who shot and killed 10 innocent people was a devout leftist who worshiped Satin, liked Antifa and was a Elizabeth Warren supporter. On his Twitter post the shooter wrote, "I want Socialism and will not wait", he also had a "Kill List" and had been expelled from school. As a solution obvious Mental Health issues need to be addressed, "If you see something say something." Also law enforcement needs to be monitoring radical suspects once pre-announced attacks happen and stop ignoring troubled behavior from troubled teenagers. Also schools should consider hiring armed security guards (perhaps Veterans).
Other than Mental Health issues, there are two more common themes with many of these tragic shootings: #1 Good Guys with Guns stopped the shooters and #2 shooters came from broken homes, and most did not have a father while growing up.
Last week, the fake news was out in full force as multiple sources reported that President Trump said that he would like to use nuclear bombs to stop hurricanes from hitting the U.S. This is just more Democrat liberal lies and insanity.
The blatantly politically bias N.Y Times is spearheading "The 1619 Project", a far-left Democrat lie teaching that the founding of this country was based on slavery in 1619. The 1619 Project is a Democrat ideology "Revisionist History" indoctrination curriculum that comes with a book list that includes topics such as the Demonization of Capitalism and Mass Incarcerations.
Despite the mainstream media's spin, President Trumps new rule prohibiting immigrants on welfare from getting green cards is based on existing law that was supported bt Democrats. The law called "The Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act" which was signed into in 1996 by Bill Clinton, also was supported by both Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer who voted for it.
President Trump has a new favorite news channel, it is One America News Network. Trump recently tweeted "Watching Fake News CNN is better than watching Shepard Smith, the lowest rated show on Fox News, actually whenever possible, I turn to OANN." (oann.com). OANN is avaiable online or on Direct TV Channel 347.
Thank you to the WA State Legislature for suing governor Inslee, saying he "Overstepped his constitutional powers" by vetoing sentences in the state’s 2019 transportation budget. The state Constitution allows a governor to veto sections of a bill while signing the rest of it into law. But Inslee went out of his way to veto specific sentences of that budget so the law would fit his narrative. This is unconstitutional and an an abuse of power!
Thanks to 19th LD Rep Jim Walsh for his continued work to abolish "Tile Only Bills" (aka ghost bills) which the corrupt WA State Democrats have been using to insert language the very last minute in a bill before they pass it into law. In the 2020 legislative session Walsh will be putting forward a bill that will make sure that when Dems want to institute a new tax, they must follow a proper procedure of public notice and transparency. What a concept...
Our next SCRP Central Committee meeting will be on September 19th at 7 pm. Meetings are in the Valley Business Center (1st floor NW Conference room) 2021 E. College Way. For our next meeting we will have several GOP Candidates speaking including WA State Governor candidate Anton Sakharov from Sammamish.
Respect and Blessings,
Bill Bruch, SCRP Chairman
