Big Environment's Tom Steye

Big Environment's Tom Steye

San Francisco based Tom Steyer, former hedge fund manager and radical environmentalist, funds campaigns across the country to further his vision of a greener society.  Although Democrats demonize the Koch brothers for their contributions to libertarian and conservative causes, they absolutely beclown themselves in order to get Tom Steyer's money.

Steyer contributed $8 million to defeat Ken Cuccinelli, the opponent of Clinton flunky Terry Mcauliffe in the Virginia governor's race.  Cuccinelli, as Virginia's Attorney General, had gone after Michael Mann's records from the time he was at the Univeristy of Virginia.  Mann, darling of global warming alarmists, was the author of the infamous 'Hockey Stick' temperature graph hoax and he was funded by Virginia taxpayers.

Steyer's money also found its way to Washington State.  In the 2013 special election to fill the  State Senator seat in the 26th District, he spent over $500,000 to defeat Jan Angel according to FactCheck.org.   His money went for naught as Angel still managed to win.

However, he scored a big victory in Whatcom Co. as $210,000 of the $275,000 he contributed to the Washington Conservation Voters Action Fund ended up funding the four greenest county council candidates. All four won their races.  His goal was (and is) to stop the construction of the Gateway Pacific Terminal which would improve the county's employment situation significantly.  Steyer's problem is that coal would be one of the commodities shipped from the terminal.  Steyer hates coal.  There's more about this at  National Review.

In the meantime, Steyer is behind efforts to stop the XL Keystone pipeline, which would improve the employment picture in our nation's hinterland and make the movement of petroleum to Texas refineries safer.  And due to his promise of  $100 million to the DNC to fund green candidates in the upcoming 2014 election, the Democrats and the Obama Administration have undertaken such efforts as the all night pajama party on the U.S. Senate floor to push global warming alarmism and the recent National Climate Assessment report, which one scientist referred to as "bad science gone berserk."

It seems that Mr. Steyer is a bit of a hypocrite.  He may be benefitting financially from his outspoken opposition to oil and coal.  Kimberly Strassel at the The Wall Street Journal has more.
