Written statement:  This bill passed out of the Senate Transportation Committee and is being heard in the Senate Ways & Means Committee to evaluate costs.  Under this bill, voter registration would be automatic when a person gets a driver's license or permit.  That person would have to opt out by returning a pre-paid form if they wanted their name removed from the voter rolls. The DOL will determine a person's eligibility and proof of citizenship.  The bill also gives the governor sole authority to determine other agencies that can register people to vote.  The Democrats on the Transportation Committee think this is going to keep our voter rolls cleaner and promote election integrity and security.  However, the Republicans on the committee write, "By expanding the agencies that have access to voter rolls, this will make the information less secure...and add to voter distrust."
